Music Moves AZ in the Classroom
Each semester Young Artist Society brings a team in to Title I Schools to teach students the fundamentals of music production. Participants will be partnered with mentors to strategize the best plan to reach graduation and continue to pursue a career or higher education after high school. Students will be tasked with career developing assignments as well as basic life skills like financial management and determining the best learning style for themselves. MusicMovesAZ classes uses a rich curriculum that is based around servant leadership and practical activations while infusing passion for the art of music production into each project.
New programming and workshops
Our team works for the youth in Arizona. We are excited to expand our curriculum to include programs in entrepreneurship and other forms of art and media. There is an increasing need for after-school programs that are free to students as many Arizona students go home to an empty house at the end of the school day. We provide a safe place for them to work on creative assignments and cultivate leadership skills in a fun constructive way. In efforts to keep our teachings fresh and relevant to our students our expansion will include spoken word poetry, lyric writing, photography and videography.
Young Artist Society students are powerful! In the Spring of 2015, the inaugural Music Production Mentorship Class took place in a school where only 41% of students graduate. Every student graduated or enrolled in classes for the next block. 17 students completed and received a high school credit for YAS music. 100% of students reported they would recommend YAS to a friend or take the class again.
Fast forward to the 2016-2017 academic year, our team was fortunate enough to serve 439 students while they hacked their education using music entrepreneurship. 99% of students enrolled in the class have graduated or are still enrolled in school. Not only have these scholars demonstrated improved grades and attendance, many of them have found a way to sell their own music as a product!
